Going cross-border pays off

The enormous rise of cross-border selling is driven by the needs of technologically-advanced customers shopping on globalized markets of today’s world. Beside of employing the right marketing strategy attention needs to be paid to many aspects of the selling process such as localized payment methods, shipping and delivery strategies, customer support, product returns and last but not least taxation and accounting.

Being said this going cross-border can be still challenging but with the latest tools and strategies it can be highly rewarding in terms of increasing the number of customers and revenues.

Marketing strategy

The first step in cross-border selling strategy is to identify the right selling channels within the new country. As in your own country, there are probably tens of selling channels available, such as product comparators, affiliate networks and marketplaces. Choose the right tool for Multichannel Marketing that allows you to promote easily your products on the selling channels of your choice and that allows seamless integration with your backoffice for order processing. Content translation

This is important. When selling internationally you’ll need to have product listings in each country’s respective language. Even if you share the same language as the country you are selling to, there will often be differences in sizing and terminology. Although you can use automated translation services it is way better to spend some resources and have the content professionally translated without spelling or typing errors.

Payments and Shipping

You need to offer payment methods in accordance with preferences of customers in the country of your interest. Adding a new payment method is not a big deal If you are using one of those platforms for your online store. However, you don’t even need to think about payments if you decide to use only Marketplaces as the main selling channels because the whole purchase process is completed within the marketplace.

Shipping methods are still challenge when going cross-border, though again, the right tools makes your life way easier. If you are well-established brand you can partner with International Distribution Office to kick up your cross-border sales.

Dropshipping is a retail fulfillment method where a merchant doesn’t keep the products he sells in stock. Instead, when a store sells a product, it purchases the item from a third party and has it shipped directly to the customer. As a result, the merchant never sees or handles the product, allowing him to fully focus on marketing efforts and trust formation without the need to worry about shipping issues when going cross-border with your online business.
